Minot International Airport Puts Its Emergency Plan to Test

The Minot International Airport will put its emergency plan to the test on Wednesday, June 15th. A federally mandated full-scale drill will be conducted from 11pm on June 15th to the early morning hours of Thursday, June 16th. Airport staff, police, fire department as well as city and county emergency personnel will all be involved in the massive emergency scenario. According to the Minot International Airport Director, Rick Feltner, this test will be a large but necessary undertaking to test the skills of his staff as well as all first responders.

"The details of what scenario might play out is under lock and key. It has to be a complete surprise to all participates. All we know is it will be a major event." said Feltner. "We'll have over 100 volunteers standing in as victims and survivors in this mock disaster."

The exercise is mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration to take place every three years. It is being performed in conjunction with Ward County Emergency Management.
Day-to-day operations will remain undisturbed at the Minot International Airport. The drill was scheduled to not interfere with the current flight schedule. The terminal will close immediately after passengers and crew from the final arriving flight exit the building. The terminal will reopen at the regularly scheduled 3 am on Thursday, June 15th.

Organizers ask the public to be aware of the exercise and to not be alarmed by all the activity. Only preregistered volunteers will be permitted in the building during the exercise. Organizers also encourage media to join for the set-up and design of the exercise prior the beginning of the drill at 11:58 pm.
